"Passing further into the romance of smallness and/or minorism are Wire Fish, an electronic duo from Yekaterinburg: Grigory Rimer and Alexander Sobenin. They joke on their Twitter account about the discrepancy between national life and private plans. It's so easy to be confused by the logic of socially accepted norms: "We all go to bed before we're tired - in order to get up before we want to. Why? Because we all have to go somewhere we'd rather not be." A local setting prompts an alternative outlook. Rimer and Sobenin draw a direct connection between how they sound and where they live. "The fact that we reside in a small provincial town, next to a huge industrial center, will obviously shape the way Wire Fish have turned out. Our common address helped to synthesize some divergent views and principles within a single project - just as we chose the symbol of multiple wires, bundled together in the shape of a living, underwater creature." "Everything around us finds expression in the sounds, atmosphere, smell, and vacuum of Wire Fish. We don't go chasing after any trends; our little fish lives its own existence and just tries to create something of significance." Grandeur, be it industrial or within the monolithic workings of state-run entertainment, runs the risk of banality. Dignity and significance are better fostered on a small scale. The same diminution is proposed when it comes to Wire Fish's primary thematic emphases: "Our new 'On the Pier' EP is a miniature trilogy, itself built from some minor sonic sketches. They concern certain aspects of human relationships - but there's no point in giving them a fixed, specific meaning. If our listeners feel the slightest emotional contact with the tracks, then we'll be happy!" © 2008–2014 Far from Moscow. All right Reserved
